Residents and plot owners of Rohini Sector 37 are protesting against the severe lack of basic amenities, primarily water supply. Despite plot allotments by the DDA in 2012, the area remains undeveloped, forcing owners to live on rent elsewhere.

Decades of Waiting: Rohini Sector 37 Still Lacks Basic Amenities

In Delhi's Rohini Sector 37, thousands of plot owners and residents are expressing deep frustration over the blatant apathy of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Even decades after initial plot bookings in 1981 and subsequent handovers in 2012, the sector remains devoid of fundamental living necessities. The most crippling issue is the absolute lack of a functioning water supply.

A "Dream Sector" Turned Ghost Town

Promoted by officials as a future "dream sector" meant to rival Gurugram, Sector 37 currently resembles a deserted woodland. Locals complain about broken roads, non-functional streetlights leaving the area completely unsafe at night, blocked sewers, and unmaintained parks.

According to the local RWA General Secretary, Mr. Pathak, and prominent residents like Anil Gupta, the infrastructure for water is mostly in place. An Underground Reservoir (UGR) was built years ago at the cost of crores but remains unused and handed over to ruins. "Water is available in neighboring sectors and unauthorized colonies all around us. If the administration wants, they can start the water supply in just 10 minutes by simply opening a valve on the line coming from Haiderpur," states a frustrated resident.

Citizens Left in the Lurch

Due to the absence of water and electricity, plot owners are unable to construct homes, while those who have managed to build houses are forced to live on rent elsewhere or continually buy water. The residents, who faithfully pay their taxes and contribute to society, feel abandoned. Endless official correspondence and multiple visits to the DDA's Madhuban Chowk office have yielded no results, with files allegedly stuck in bureaucratic red tape.

Demand for Immediate Action

The residents are pleading with the DDA, DJB, and the government to intervene immediately. With proper infrastructure like water, roads, and lighting, Sector 37 has the potential to comfortably accommodate up to 4 lakh people. The community asserts that providing these basic municipal services is the only way to transform this neglected sector into the thriving neighborhood it was promised to be.
